For a long time the terms ‘nerd’ and ‘geek’ have been synonymous with unpopularity. But not anymore! Like the title says we are living in The Age of Fandom and I love every second of it.unknown (2)

San Diego, which in German means a whale’s vagina. Wait that isn’t right, let me try that again. San Diego is the place to be in July if you’re a fan of Movies, TV, or Comic Books. That’s right I’m talking about the one and only San Diego Comic Con. Simply put it’s the Mecca of all things fandom. Each year the biggest news in “fandom” comes from SDCC.

This year was big. We got news of an animated adaptation of The Killing Joke to be released in 2016. We also saw leaked footage and pictures from movies like Batman Vs Superman, Suicide Squad, and Deadpool. I’m gonna rank these as my top three and focus on them, more to come on Thursday’s new episode. First would have to be the trailer from Batman Vs Superman. We got a better look at Bruce Wayne/ Batman as well as a little Jason Todd reference. Also, we finally got a glimpse of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in action as well as Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.

Second on my list would have to be the leaked trailer for Deadpool. I am more excited for this movie than any other for 2016. Considering the R rating that Deadpool is going to have the trailer that was leaked was a “Red Band” which allowed for profanity and more violence, which lets be honest it wouldn’t be Deadpool without. Trailer begins with a little origin story for Wade Wilson then progresses into the Deadpool humor and story we wanna see. This movie is gonna be a blast and I can’t wait.

Last but not least is the Suicide Squad leaked trailer. Now this movie is last on my list for 1 reason, and that’s because of the leaked spoiled pictures released through the year (check out episode 24 Spoilers Squad). On the positive side this trailer was awesome from beginning to end. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller looked amazing and definitely a great casting call. From the moment this movie was casted I had some doubts but now those doubts are gone. Will Smith as Deadshot looked incredible and will certainly change people’s perspective when they see it. Margot Robbie looked remarkable as Harley Quinn, certainly a different take on the character that we are use to seeing in cartoons and video games. The rest of the cast looks great as well. But the shining moment of this trailer has to be the end when Captain Boomerang played by Jai Courtney says “you know what they say about the crazy ones” and Harley Quinn peaks out and responds “huh?”…. Laughter is heard and you know who it is right away…. The Clown Prince of Crime! Jared Leto as the Joker walks out laughing with his arms up and out to his side. Then there is a shot of the whole “Suicide Squad” walking with Katana looking badass in the front. Then the final chilling scene of The Joker speaking to an unknown person saying ” I’m not gonna kill you, I’m just gonna hurt you really really bad”. Then the title screen pops up.  TAKE MY MONEY!!

Now, two of these movies trailers are leaked online. Uploaded by fans sitting in the crowd recording on the trailers on their cell phones, as great as it is to see these trailers, certain rules should be upheld when visiting a panel such as these. Be respectful and don’t show footage or photos. If the studio wanted the footage/ photos to be released they would have done it themselves. That’s why studios are so quick to cease and desist all leaked footage so quickly. Such is the nature of our show that we will watch what is leaked, we’re not proud of it, but we watch.

imagejpegI’m gonna leave this blog with a little heartfeltness (not a word I know but it’s my blog so shut it). These past 7 years of fandom have been amazing and such events like Comic Cons have allowed us fans of these universes to be happy and comfortable and confident with whom they are as geeks or nerds, I am thankful for that. With that being said I hope you enjoyed this years San Diego Comic Con as much as I did and I look forward to 2016 and beyond.
